Bilbao Day 2

Bilbao is the de facto capital city of Basque Country and has been reviving itself since the building of the Guggenheim Museum since the late 90’s. The entire town has taken on the personality of that place and just has an artistic feel to it. John and I got in a leisurely walk in the morning before going to the museum and then Ed and Steve arrived and we spent the day eating, drinking and catching up. Another trip to the Old Town to see the sights and some people watching. Some anticipatory thoughts on the journey ahead of us but some excitement about what the next few weeks will bring. John expressed it best by looking to use the meditations, the prescribed 2 hours of walking in silence and the physical activity to help clear the mind of the daily noise and perhaps open up a place to let spirituality in. Time will tell. We leave for Loyola at noon on Sunday. I’ll post a few more photos in a separate blog.

  1. It is amazing how after 45 years, how comfortable and natural our conversations and interactions have been so far. Our common experience, made possible by an anonymous benefactrix in 1914 (Mrs Grant) , has shaped us in a way that I think all of us find difficult to put into words. What is evident is that our bond transcends time and distance and we remain brothers and Sons of Regis. Where this journey leads us individually will unfold, but what will perpetually be sure is that that won’t change.

  2. Excited to start the journey for which we came. We have had a wonderful few days re-visiting our 49 year old connections. Collectively, we have experienced and accomplished much, mostly in wonderful families and now sunsetting successful careers, but our conversation keeps returning to how it all started that one September day in 1977. We are blessed; we are grateful. Our next two weeks will fortify our bonds, renew our faith, and refill that sense of wonder and excitement we shared so long ago. May God guide us well.
